January 1st marks a new year of possibilities for Vancouverites. It is a time to implement the vision board and make New Year's resolutions to fill our social feeds with inspiration, self-motivation, and a dash of wanting to look good for Instagram.
According to a Forbes poll conducted in 2024, over 61.7% of survey respondents feel the need to make and stick with a New Year's resolution to start their next 365 days on the right foot. But as life becomes increasingly intense and tricky to navigate, it’s time to adapt to resolutions tailored to our daily lives that take up no brain space whatsoever.
Here are five resolutions that Vancouverites can follow to start 2025 off right.
We've all been there, standing at the platform after a hard day, aching feet, patience on a string, when we've heard the voice from the heavens announce that there has been a delay. Let us embrace these delays by finding comradery as we go through the new year.
Try complaining to your neighbour beside you or taking the chance to answer the text message you've been avoiding. Reaching your destination will be even more satisfying..
What foodie isn’t constantly checking out Reddit threads and articles about hidden gem restaurants? Vancouver has a vibrant food industry and culture, so finding new businesses to support is always great. But sometimes, you get overwhelmed by choice and find yourself at Cactus Club's doorstep, thirsting for a frozen Bellini.
Being overwhelmed by choice makes us stick to our classics, but that's why they're our favourites.
It is a common trope from first dates to icebreakers, hiking is a go-to activity here. But does anyone take hiking seriously unless it means a sunny day with a mountaintop picture at the end? Why worry about dusting off your muddy hiking boots when they don't have to get dirty at all?
By hiking in the summer, you get to enjoy the beauty of Vancouver without worrying about the constant layers, either.
Rather than complaining about the constant rainfall, take this opportunity to romanticize our rainy city and be the main character. Whether standing under a bus stop with an umbrella or blasting Noah Kahan, it is time to embrace our temporary rainforest climate.
We have all been there. We complain about our dear team in blue and green (or black, red and gold, depending on the week) and then cheer as soon as we smoke the opponents.
We have our fingers crossed that the boys will pull through to qualify, and we can experience the electric feelings of playoff season again, which will be filled with plenty of new fans who promise they've always been fans, especially when the team was winning.
What New Year’s resolutions did you set for 2025, and how are they going so far?
