Calling all “basic” b’s, a pop culture bar is opening in Langley
If you get it, you get it!
Love the vibe of bars, but not what’s playing on the TVs? Kelsie Exley, a Metro Vancouver entrepreneur, is taking on a new venture as a restaurateur, aiming to open the province's first pop culture bar. The Maple Ridge-born content creator, dancer, and social media manager has built a strong following online and is now inviting her audience to join her on the journey of creating a unique space where pop culture enthusiasts can come together.
After moving to Langley, Exley began developing the idea for "Basic," a sports bar concept designed for the “basic” crowd. Inspired by her love of reality TV, red carpets, and award shows, Exley realized there was a lack of venues where people who enjoy these pop culture elements could gather in a similar way to sports fans.
"I love the energy of sports bars but wanted a place for people who share a passion for pop culture—whether it’s watching award shows or debating fashion," Exley said. The bar, aimed at embracing “basic” interests with pride, will offer a lively atmosphere with food, drinks, and a welcoming community vibe.
Exley has faced criticism for being labeled “basic,” but she embraces it. “It’s often used as an insult, but why should enjoying pop culture be any different from a love of sports?” she explained.
Currently searching for the perfect location in Langley, Exley is also seeking investors and is in the works of launching a crowdfunding campaign as her followers help her bring her dream to life. "This idea should be as common as sports bars," she added, envisioning watch parties, trivia nights, and even fun theme events where fans can dress up and dance. Expect a vibrant experience with delicious food and drinks, making "Basic" an exciting new addition to Metro Vancouver’s entertainment scene. Are you “basic” enough for this bar?
