Where could the Brockstar will go?
The Canucks have left a lot to be desired this season. Whether it has been instability in the crease, locker room drama, or the underwhelming play of Elias Pettersson, this so far has been a season for Canucks fans to forget. That doesn’t mean however the trade rumours have stopped as it is reported that Brock Boeser may be on the move with extension talks at an impasse. Let’s look at the potential trade destinations for the Brockstar.
The most likely destination for the services of Boeser would be the Minnesota Wild. The Wild are in a playoff spot and would appreciate more help on the wings for their top 6. With star Kirill Kaprizov out with an injury, it seems the team will need another scoring forward to keep them competitive. Also aided is that Boeser is from Minnesota and playing for his hometown club would be a boon no other team could offer when it comes to extending him. Minnesota could give up their first for next year, a prospect such as Hunter Haight, or an established player such as Joel Eriksson Ek if the Canucks offer more.
Florida is another option as the defending champs get ready for another postseason with a chance to repeat. With star Matthew Tkachuk out for the foreseeable future (potentially till the playoffs, allowing Florida to take advantage of LTIR cap relief rules), the Cats could go big game hunting to add depth and Boeser would be a perfect one year rental. The Panthers could send back their first round pick for next year, which the Canucks could flip for another player like they did for Marcus Pettersson, or Sam Bennett who is an UFA this upcoming summer.
Lastly, another destination could be the New York Islanders. The Islanders are at an impasse between competing for a playoff spot or a retool and adding Boeser would add stability to their top 6 (and reunite Boeser with Bo Horvat, the former Canucks Captain). The team could send their first round pick or even Defenseman Noah Dobson, who could be on the move and would make the Vancouver blueline the best in the league.
Boeser has been with the Vancouver organization longer than any forward and departing with him would be a big blow to fans. But, if the Canucks have no intention to resign him, might as well get something back. Where do you think the Brockstar will go?
