No Chick-fil-A sauce? Chick-fil-A, the U.S. fast-food giant known for its chicken sandwiches, is expanding its Canadian presence with plans to open five to seven new locations in British Columbia by 2030. The first B.C. restaurant is expected to open in late 2027 or early 2028. This expansion follows the brand’s successful growth in Alberta, with new restaurants slated to open across Ontario and Alberta in 2025.
The move into B.C. promises to create significant job opportunities, with each restaurant hiring between 80 to 120 employees. Jessica Sisk Roehle, Chick-fil-A's director of restaurant development in Canada, expressed excitement about bringing the "authentic Chick-fil-A experience" to B.C.'s thriving communities, emphasizing the company’s commitment to creating jobs and investing in local areas.
Since entering Canada in 2019, Chick-fil-A has opened 22 locations, with its first in Toronto. However, the company has faced controversy due to CEO Dan Cathy’s past opposition to same-sex marriage and donations to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations. However, it has since stated that it no longer supports such groups, and maintains its Corporate Purpose “To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us.” The brand’s entry into new markets has sometimes sparked protests, as seen during the Toronto opening in 2019.
Chick-fil-A also highlights its charitable initiatives in Canada, including donations to food rescue organizations and scholarships for employees. As the company continues to grow, it remains to be seen how the brand will be received in B.C. Will you be hitting up Chick-fil-A when they open?
